The Wake County Senior Games (WCSG) began in 1989-1990 to promote fitness, friendship and well-being for people 50 years of age and older. Sanctioned by the North Carolina Senior Games Inc., we are one of the largest of the 53 local games in the state. The athletic, performing and visual arts events provide a forum to meet new people, enjoy healthy competition, be creative and most importantly to have fun.

The events are held in March and April each year. Individuals compete for awards within their own gender and age categories: 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+. Typically the top three winners (medalists) in each event by age and gender are eligible to compete in the North Carolina Senior Games (NCSG), State Finals, each fall. Medalists from the NCSG State Finals are eligible to compete in the National Senior Games that occur every two years.

More than 30 individual and team sporting events such as tennis, golf, bowling, basketball, swimming, cornhole, pickleball, cycling and track and field are offered, as well as competition in the visual, literary, heritage and performing arts. All events take place in and around Wake County.

Major coordinating agencies include the City of Raleigh, Town of Garner, Town of Cary, and Town of Apex.

The WCSG relies on volunteers and the generosity of sponsors. We receive no local or state funding and operate all of our events through corporate sponsorship, private donations and participant entry fees.
